Annual Gopher Boxcar Derby

Stewart Middle School will be hosting the 1st Annual Gopher Boxcar Derby. The Derby is part of a grant from The Tyler Foundation and is designed to help students hone math and science concepts critical to success on the upcoming TAKS test. Friday’s festivities will include judging of the finished product, races, awards and will culminate in a demolition derby. For event times for Friday’s festivities please call the school at 903-272-1710.

Schools participating this year include Bell, Birdwell, Caldwell, Clarkston, Douglas,Jack, Peete, Ramey and Woods. Routines such as clogging, basketball, gymnastics, jump rope, dance will be included in the program. Physical Education Instructors are Kristen Parker, Tom Matteucci, Dyann Kemp, Jill Steigman, Maggie Wright, Jill Buchanan, Lisa Snell, Brandi Hill, Tracy Berg, Happi Deason, and Ashley Phelps.

Monday(3/22)-"Give Learning a High 5"
Students greet each other w/"High 5's for Learning"

Tuesday(3/23)-"Tip Your Hat for Learning"
Students and teachers will decorate hats for "Best Hat Award" - 5 winners will receive paperback books.

Wednesday (3/24)-"Hit a Home Run with Learning"-Wear your favorite sport jersey or your Ramey Spirit Shirt. Class banner contest-

Thursday (3/25)-"Learning is Cool!" Students and staff wear jogging suits. Popsicles will be available for every student and teacher. Students will write about "Cool Things about Learning."

Friday (3/26)-"Learning Sets You Free"-Students and staff wear jeans and spirit shirt. At 1:45 classes will display banners and walk around the school to celebrate learning. A balloon launch will celebrate a partnership of: "Students, Teachers, and Parents collaborating to Make Learning Successful."

Parents are invited each day to join students for lunch.

Title I Parenting services will provide a evening of fun family math activities for families with students in grades three through five. Pizza will be served.

There will be a pancake breakfast for families in the Clarkston Cafeteria in celebration of Texas Public School's Week. Cost is $1.25 for guests and includes 3 pancakes, sausage, and milk or juice.

Grandfriends Day

Grandparents and Grandfriends are invited to come to our campus to observe classroom programs, eat lunch and participate in hallway activities. Our hallway activities include having their pictures taken with their student and entering a drawing to win a breakfast gift certificate to an area restaurant. A display will be available where grandparents and grandfriends can show their students on a map where they were born and learn to say "grandmother and grandfather in different languages." Students will have the opportunity to visit the Andy Woods Book Fair with their grandparents and grandfriends during the day.

Extended Learning Programs

Students are invited to participate in the Extended Learning Programs offered offered on Saturdays as we prepare and sharpen our skills in readiness for the upcoming TAKS tests.  Classes offered are Math, Reading, Computer Application, Home making, Sports, etc.  Students have a choice of two core classes with an elective class in addition. 


Saturday, April 17

Pearl Peace Project Memorial Concert

REL Fine Arts Center

Robert E. Lee High School’s Jessica Emery has been named the recipient of the 2009 Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin. Jessica attended the Mark O’ Conner Strings conference this summer in New York where she was named one of only two recipients of the Memorial Violins. Jessica will have full use of the handcrafted instrument, which she has nicknamed “Pearl”, for one year.  The award is in memory of Daniel Pearl the violinist, fiddler, and Wall Street Journal reporter who was murdered in Pakistan in 2002.
The concert will include all types of music such as Classical, Fiddle of various styles such Swing, Celtic, Irish, Canadian, Klezmer, Jazz, Rock, etc. on various string instruments. Performing in the concert will be a variety of musical string talent including professional musicians, teachers, and students from the community, as well as Jessica performing on “Pearl”.
