What Is Title I? Title I is the largest federal aid program for our
nation's schools. The goal of Title I is a high quality education for every child. The program provides extra help to students who are attending identified Title I
schools. Identified Title I schools are those schools with high poverty levels. Title I focuses on assisting students in meeting the standards the state has set for all
children. The Title I program in the Tyler Independent School District serves 11,854 children in the elementary and secondary schools this school
year. The students are enrolled in the following identified schools:

Participation in the Tyler Independent School District Title I program does make a difference in the lives of students,
parents, and teachers.
Children receive more educational opportunities
Parents have more say about their child's education
Teachers benefit through staff development, materials, and supplies purchased by Title I funds
How it works:
Each Title I campus develops its own plan of action to assist all students in meeting the state's standards. The campus plan of action is determined
by setting goals for improvement, measuring student progress using the state's standard, and identifying students most in need of educational help. Programs are then
developed with input from parents and teachers that add to regular classroom instruction. The Title I program on each campus is unique and is based on the variety of
needs. Title I programs offer a combination of some or all of the following:
smaller classes
additional teachers and/or assistant
additional training for school staff
extra time for instruction
a variety of teaching methods and materials
counseling and mentoring
leadership for parents
mini workshops
summer school
