2012 - 2013 District Teacher of the Month

 
April 2013 -  Melanie Thomas, Rice Elementary School

Melanie Thomas is the cheerleader of Rice Elementary School. She teaches 4th grade ELAR/Social Studies and is very enthusiastic about making learning fun, engaging, and challenging. Melanie strives to know every student by holding individual conferences with each student. She sets her expectations high while also providing support for struggling students and building their confidence so they will believe that they can succeed. She is a leader on campus serving as grade chair for the 4th grade and volunteers for PTA events and any function the school has after school. For Rice Elementary, Melanie Thomas is a ray of sunshine.
March 2013 -  La'Shunda Wright, Ramey Elementary School

La'Shundra Wright is bold and not afraid to take calculated risks when teaching her students. Her teaching style is not always conventional, but excites and motivates her students to be successful.  Her students understand that she accepts nothing but the best from them and she gives them her best every day.
February 2013 -  Michael Stacks, Owens Elementary School

Michael Stacks is the 4th grade ELAR teacher at Owens. Michael works well with all students but his real gift lies in working with at-risk children. He utilizes the data available to him to plan interventions for his students to help them be successful. He is a great team member and works well with everyone on the campus. Michael serves on the Vertical Reading Team to help the campus plan across the grade levels.

January 2013 -  Sharon Palmer, Bonner Elementary School

Sharon Palmer exemplifies the teacher that one would want for their own children or grandchildren.  Ms. Palmer, a leader at Bonner, constantly seeks opportunities to grow professionally and then implements these proven strategies to move students forward.  She is consistently positive and supportive with students, staff and parents and contributes to the culture of caring that is the standard of Bonner.

December 2012 -  Patricia Bajali, John Tyler High School

Patricia Bajali, truly exudes servant leadership. She not only gives of time with her students but she helps teachers throughout our campus. She is a mentor to new teachers and she is selfless in her quest to help students see their full potential. Mrs. Bajali reacts to problems that may arise on our campus with solutions rather than just rhetoric. She is a team player as she always works towards consensus and compromise. She is terrific and deserves acknowledgement for her effort.



November 2012 -  Christian Killmeyer, Dogan Middle School

Christian Killmeyer teaches 6th grade English Language Arts and Reading.  She is the classic teacher: prepared for each day, persistent in challenging each student, and passionate about her work.  Her walls and windows are plastered with original pieces of student work and projects.  Enter her room and you will quickly recognize the warm, inviting environment where students often work in teams to complete various reading and writing activities. Dogan is proud to have Ms. Killmeyer be recognized as November teacher of the month.
October 2012 -  Courtney Tebo, Griffin Elementary School

Ms. Tebo has gone above and beyond for instruction and sharing ideas with other teachers. She uses body movements with the alphabet and sounds as another strategy to help students develop on the TPRI. Courtney has good classroom management and her students are always engaged.

 

September 2012 - Brenda Corley, Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs 

Brenda is passionate about her job.  She loves her students and loves teaching. 
Brenda is a lifelong learner who is open to learning new strategies and ideas.

 

She is always looking for new and innovative ways to reach her students. Brenda will use any and every method possible to engage and teach her students. Her students are always smiling and enjoying themselves.
