Benchmark 1: Target Population

***Applications to join the ECHS family for the 2023-24 year are closed. ***

Admissions Policy

Tyler ISD Early College High School’s primary focus is on providing students from underrepresented backgrounds (i.e. at-risk, low income and/or first generation college attendees) the opportunity to earn 60+ college credits free of charge while attending high school. As a designated Early College High School we must target students from underrepresented backgrounds; however, we encourage students of all backgrounds to apply. Note: In accordance with the Texas Education Agency rules for ECHS Blueprint Benchmark 1, academics, discipline, state assessments and/or teacher recommendations cannot be considered in the selection process.

Application Criteria

Students do not have to reside with the Tyler ISD Attendance zone to apply. If you are outside of the district you must provide your own transportation, however if reside in the Tyler ISD attendance zone you may obtain district transportation. In addition to a completed application, there is an essay and interview requirement for all applicants. Current 9th graders who have NOT been previously enrolled at ECHS are also eligible to apply. We typically accept approximately 125 incoming freshmen and 20 incoming sophomores. They will complete the full application process. No incoming juniors or seniors will be admitted unless they were previously enrolled in another early college high school.

Application Process

Students with completed applications submitted by the deadline will be scheduled for an interview. During the interview, students will be asked to complete an academic survey. Interviews will be conducted by the Tyler ISD Early College High School Selection Team.

Hard copies of the application maybe offered upon request. Recommendations can be submitted via email attachment, intercampus mail, or US mail. Do NOT give completed recommendations to students.
