ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Hazel Owens Elementary opened in the fall of 1985, as a result of a bond issue, to relieve over crowdedness in other elementary schools. It was built to serve 600 students. In 1988, an additional wing was built because of rapid growth. It is unique in that it is the only TISD school outside the city limits and is located in a beautiful wooded area.
Owens was named in honor of Hazel Owens, a longtime, well-respected employee of TISD. She was fortunate to have been alive when the school opened. Ms. Owens visited several times and even read to many classrooms of children.
We are very proud of our outstanding staff, parents and students. We pride ourselves in providing a nurturing family atmosphere in which all students feel loved and successful.
