Dear Parents of Tyler High School Students:
Welcome to Lion Country! My name is Claude Lane. I am so excited to continue to serve in leadership on this campus. We have amazing students and parents.
Welcome to a new Tyler High School. Our world-class facility is absolutely stunning and is equipped with the latest state-of-the art technology for students. Thank you Tyler Community for supporting our students and providing this wonderful building for learning. We will continue to focus on leadership this school year. We rally behind the slogan that when we “choose our best that leads to success,” as demonstrated on the student homework agenda cover.
The past few years have defined and shaped us as a nation, a community, and a campus. We are stronger because we choose daily to be the better person that is within us. To take this idea even further we are encouraging our students to do more than is expected. Our staff is completing a book study on The Power of One More and how that leads to happiness and success. Some examples of this concept is when we do one more rep at the gym, or touching the line while running for basketball conditioning. Anytime we go above what is expected, it almost always results in success and shows we are a leader. We know you will join us in teaching our lions to be leaders at school, in our community, and throughout their life.
We are in our fourth year of re-establishing our PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association). In addition, we made partnerships with several community restaurants and businesses to provide discounts and local support for our students. We brought back our annual yearbook for students and also implemented many daily systems and routines to set students up for success. We have an electronic hall pass system to ensure student accountability and safety at all times. Our homework planning book is one of those systems that we will continue to support. We also invite you to join our PTSA membership.
In addition, our agenda sponsor TLC Fundraising will make available to purchase a school-wide Discount Card. This card will help our families with discounts at many of our local businesses. Proceeds from this card will support teachers and instruction in the classroom.
Our expectations are higher than they have ever been for student achievement! We are doing well in the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Accountability System. We currently have a "B" rating in the TEA A-F Accountability System. We are ready to raise the School Report Card rating to an “A” with TEA Distinctions in multiple areas. Our early release of scores from TEA at the time of this publication, indicates that Tyler High School has improved in the rigor and depth that students performed on their EOC’s. In other words, our overall student score on each EOC test is going up! (Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History) Academics will always be our first focus as we work with our lions to be well-rounded students.
Our Organizational Health Instrument survey showed “Goal Focus” and “Communication” to be our number one strengths at THS. “Goal Focus” as indicated by the staff survey, is directly associated with the positive results we are experiencing. Great communication and clear academic goals must be a priority for all of us. We need to hear your voice, so please be transparent and solution oriented with the Tyler High School staff and myself. We are here to serve.
As a parent we ask you to engage with your student and join us in loving Tyler High School. We are the “best kept secret” in Tyler, but not for long!
Help us tell our “Roar Stories as we choose to be the best Lions that we can be!”
