Tyler ISD is excited to announce six outstanding Tyler Legacy High School students for being recognized by the 2024 National Merit® Scholarship Program. As Tyler’s hometown school district, Tyler ISD is proud to have one of the two students in Tyler to be named a National Merit Semifinalist.

Senior Brady Filla has been named a National Merit Semifinalist and is among the more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit® Scholarship Program. He will continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth $28 million. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2024 will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join nearly 375,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.

More than 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit® Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as an initial screening of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

In addition, five students have been named National Merit Commended Students. The students are Ethan Macha, Sanay Salvi, Addie Sartor, Austen Walls, and Riley Wilson. Commended students are generally the top 3-5% scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT test and among about 35,000 students nationwide who receive Letters of Commendation to mark their achievement.

“We are so proud of these six students for getting these prestigious awards,” Tyler Legacy High School Counselor Susana Martínez-Arroyo said. “This amazing accomplishment is just one step on their incredible journey. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and academic success.”
