The Tyler ISD Athletic Department proudly announces two inductees for the 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Janet Kniffen Scholl and Mrs. Lelia Wallendar Wright, both standouts in tennis at the former Robert E. Lee High School, were recognized during halftime of the Tyler Legacy vs. Mesquite Horn football game on October 13 at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
Both women were selected based on high school achievements, post-high school accomplishments, and other contributing factors.
Scholl, a 1978 graduate, and Wright, a 1980 graduate, played key roles in the Red Raider tennis program and won the state girls' doubles tennis championship in 1978.
Since 2013, Tyler ISD Athletics has honored sixty-four former student-athletes, coaches, and championship teams who have demonstrated principles of character, citizenship, success, and leadership through its annual Hall of Fame induction process. Former inductees include Earl Campbell, Matt Flynn, Billy Hall, Aaron Ross, A'Quonesia Franklin, Marianne Jones, and various state championship teams.
To be considered for the Athletic Hall of Fame, an athlete, coach, or contributor must be nominated. To nominate someone, visit the Tyler ISD Athletics website.
