In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Boulter Middle School students and staff brought cheer of the holiday season to The Fountains of Tyler assisted living community on Friday, December 15. The event was the culmination of a month-long initiative by the school to spread joy and goodwill throughout the Boulter community.
Staff members at Boulter Middle School went above and beyond, fulfilling wish lists from the residents. Meanwhile, the students poured their hearts into creating personalized letters for each of the seven residents. These letters expressed holiday cheer and established a heartfelt connection between the students and the elderly residents.
βThis is a gift from God,β Executive Director of The Fountains of Tyler Kristin Bailey said. βFor many residents, this is the only Christmas they will have. We are very grateful to the students and staff of Boulter Middle School for gifting us with this blessing.β
βI feel very happy to give the feeling of the season to these residents,β seventh-grade student Donβje Thomas said.
Eighth-grade student Maliek Tyiska echoed these thoughts. βThis makes me grateful and blessed to be able to give back to our community, especially when they might not have loved ones to celebrate during the holidays.β
As a token of appreciation, the students were treated to cookies, adding a sweet touch to an already heartwarming event.
βWe wanted to establish our presence in the community, and what better way to start than to bring some holiday cheer to our neighbors,β Principal of Boulter Middle School Justin Simmons said.
The Christmas cheer outreach at The Fountains of Tyler marked the conclusion of a month-long community engagement effort by Boulter Middle School. Activities included collecting donations for the East Texas Food Bank, a toy drive, and the school choir singing and writing cards for the assisted living community earlier in the week.
