Leadership Night at Rice Elementary School included student-led conferences and the 7 Habits Fair for all grade levels. During student-led conferences, students take on the role of presenting their academic progress, achievements, and goals directly to their parents. This hands-on approach fosters independence, self-reflection, and effective communication skills in students.
The 7 Habits Fair, where students taught their parents the Leader in Me 7 Habits, took place in the cafeteria with a variety of hands-on activities for families to do together. Activities at each booth were led by students selected from each grade level, kindergarten through 5th grade. Pre-K students helped by putting stickers on the Fair tickets.
Parents were impressed by the leadership skills that were demonstrated throughout the evening. Parents also commented on how well their children knew the 7 Habits and were amazed at how well they could explain them as they communicated with parents while doing each activity.
The evening culminated in each family taking a "Habits at Home" magnet to stick on their refrigerator as a reminder of how to implement the 7 Habits at home too. Vocabulary builds culture and campus teachers and staff want the Rice families to speak the same language of leadership at home that they do at school.
βIt was a very memorable evening of learning for our students and staff,β Rice Counselor Diana Koop said. βParents were still commenting in the drop-off line the morning!β
