Students in construction classes at the Tyler ISD Career and Technology Center designed and built a pup house for the Smith County Habitat for Humanity’s Pup Houses in the Plaza.
Under the guidance of skilled instructors, the students have been putting their construction skills to the test, pouring their creativity and dedication into building a cozy and stylish shelter for furry friends. This unique endeavor not only showcases the students’ craftsmanship but also serves a noble cause, as the pup house will be auctioned off on April 20.
“We are extremely proud of our students and honored to be a part of this charitable event,” Construction Teacher Corey Richardson said. “The students had fun creating this project and worked tirelessly to create a unique pup house that now can benefit the community.”
Pup Houses on the Plaza was created with the intention of sharing the Smith County Habitat for Humanity’s mission with a broader audience. Along with the pup house created by CTC students, four other businesses will also have their pup house on display starting next week at the Plaza Tower Atrium and continuing until the Celebration Gala & Auction on Saturday, April 20.
“We are so grateful for our Pup House Builders who are using their time, talents, and resources to help us spread the mission of Smith County Habitat,” said Kaitlyn Shultz, Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Habitat for Humanity Smith County. “I have a feeling the public is going to be blown away by Tyler ISD’s Career and Technology students’ Pup House because I know I was! I hope this student-built Pup House will inspire young people to rise to the challenge, even if they are up against adults or professionals, because their talent and work are important, too!”
The auction promises to be a vibrant event, bringing together animal lovers, community members, and Smith County Habitat for Humanity supporters. All proceeds from the auction will benefit various pet-related nonprofits of Smith County, providing vital support for their ongoing efforts to care for and rehome animals in need.
