At a special ceremony this morning, Tyler ISD celebrated the achievements of nine students from the District’s LINK 18+ Program, three of whom graduated and received their diplomas. These graduating interns are Julianna Wetmore, Timmothy McInroe, and Jacob Montgomery. The Learning Independence and New Knowledge (LINK) program, located on the Tyler Junior College (TJC) West Campus and in businesses throughout the community, helps students with special needs develop vocational and independent living skills.

"At Tyler ISD, we are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our students in the LINK 18+ Program,” Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. β€œToday's ceremony marks not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a testament to the power of community partnerships. Together, we are providing our students with the tools they need to thrive independently and contribute meaningfully to our community."

Some graduates will join their family businesses, and others will attend the East Texas Center for Independent Living (ETCIL) to learn skills and socialization.

In the last four years, The LINK Program has partnered with 51 businesses in the community for work-based learning. This year alone, LINK has partnered with the following new businesses: Reunion Plaza, Caldwell Arts Academy, Discovery Science Place, The Heights, Tyler Public Library, and Shelly Drive Animal Clinic. The LINK Class of 2024 is the 14th class to participate in the LINK 18+ Program at TJC West. We are so thankful for the partnerships we have built in our community and the opportunity for these students to learn real-life vocational and independent skills.

Sherrie Warren was also recognized for 30 years of service with Tyler ISD. She has worked at various campuses throughout the district and is retiring as a job coach with the LINK Program.

"We're very grateful for Sherrie's dedication to Tyler ISD and the LINK 18+ Program," Tyler ISD Student Support Coordinator Abby Dominy said.
