The Awards were established by Congress in 1983. Two Texas PAEMST finalists, one math and one science, will be announced later this summer and then honored at a special ceremony in Washington, DC, celebrating their contributions to STEM education and their commitment to shaping the future of Texas students.

Mrs. Fumo’s nomination as a finalist for the Presidential Award highlights her innovative teaching methods, deep subject knowledge, and ongoing efforts to nurture a passion for math among her students.

“Layne Fumo’s dedication to excellence in mathematics education and her commitment to student success exemplify the values we uphold at Caldwell Arts Academy,” Caldwell Principal Bobby Markle said. “We are incredibly proud of her achievements and the positive impact she has on our students and school community.”

In addition to her recognition as a PAEMST finalist, Mrs. Fumo was honored as the Tyler ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year. This accolade recognizes her exceptional leadership, creativity, and impact on student learning at Caldwell Arts Academy.
