The fun-filled morning hour outside at Andy Woods Elementary School was an excellent example of our littlest students experiencing a BIG educational event!
"Community Helper Day allows our students to extend their classroom learning experience by seeing, exploring, and asking questions of those who help our city in crucial ways," Andy Woods Pre-K Team Lead Jana Slaughter said." "It is super fun to see the vehicles they work in, too!"
All the excitement was due to a partnership with Tyler Police and Fire Station #7, Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System, and the United Parcel Service (UPS) store. The teachers set up three rotations for their students to visit. The back parking lot turned into a showroom for a kid's favorite firetruck, a loud and lit ambulance, a place for a "meet and greet" with a police officer, and a good look inside a UPS Big Brown truck.
Each class moved from vehicle to vehicle. They were excited to interact face-to-face with the professionals who got to drive these cool cruisers. Pre-K is the perfect age to play and imagine what it would be like to grow up and be in charge of driving one of these memorable machines all by themselves someday. There were many photo opportunities for the crew and kids to capture the impactful interactions and lasting memories.
