Andy Woods Elementary School had a unique way to end their Pre-K farm unit studies. Each year, Mrs. Jana Slaughter's students learn new vocabulary about farm animals, what they provide us with, and what farmers must do on the farm. They practiced their vocabulary words and had real-life, hands-on experiences.

On Farm Day 2024, the students interacted with animals, including a milking cow provided by Southwest Dairy Farmers. The interactive trailer had a drop-down screen where the students could watch a presentation on milking cows and getting the milk to their cereal bowl in the morning.

The learning didn't stop there. Various fun-filled stops included real-life horse rides. Parents could walk alongside their children and, of course, take plenty of pictures. These beautiful animals are a student favorite that has returned to Farm Day year after year to the delight of the young cowgirls and cowboys.

There were piglets to pet from the Tyler ISD Career & Technology (CTC) Animal Science Department, an old and a modern tractor provided by United Ag & Turf to climb on, corn to shell off the cob, compost to dig for worms, and a spinning wheel by a local artisan. Fifth-grade student volunteers ran the crafting stations, showing their younger pre-K friends how to design their take-home treasures.
