Tyler ISD celebrates the power of partnershipsβ€”both within the district and across the communityβ€”in supporting the educational journey of students with special needs. Through collaboration among our special education department, Tyler ISD is enhancing student learning through a new themed literacy program. This initiative has been made possible by the generosity of Super 1 Foods, whose contribution provides essential supplies to bring these monthly activities to life.

The program, launched by Tyler ISD’s Assistive Technology team of Ashley Frantz and Melisa LeBlanc, is built on the commitment and expertise of various service professionals working together to create a holistic, engaging educational experience. Each month, students participate in a literacy session, which includes story time followed by a themed snack craft, which fosters essential communication, literacy, and motor skills. For example, in October, students enjoyed The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. They then created spider-inspired treats using Oreos, Twizzlers, icing, and candy eyesβ€”a fun, tactile activity reinforcing literacy and fine motor skills in an inclusive, supportive environment.

β€œOur team is dedicated to creating an educational experience that meets students’ needs in a collaborative, supportive setting,” Special Education Instructional Specialist Amber Duke said. β€œWhen our service providers work together, we are able to help our students grow and meet their goals. Programs like this highlight the importance of partnership among staff and community supporters."

Ms. Fabiola Hinojosa, Manager of Super 1 Foods, provided a gift card covering approximately three months’ worth of supplies for these activities to enrich learning and social development. β€œWith community support like Ms. Hinojosa’s, we can bring joy and meaningful learning to our students,” LeBlanc said. β€œSuper 1 Foods’ involvement exemplifies the impact local businesses can have when they support education.”

Matthew Ragan, a parent from Bell Elementary School, shares, β€œI think it’s wonderful that there are so many adults working together to help our children progress toward their individual goals in an engaging way. I know that it brings so much joy to their day.”

Tyler ISD extends its heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Hinojosa and Super 1 Foods for their commitment to local students. Their support highlights the power of community partnerships in enhancing educational experiences. Tyler ISD welcomes additional support from other businesses interested in contributing to the program.
