As a link between the community and the classroom, a school board member's role is to establish policies that provide the framework for public schools. The Tyler ISD Board is responsible for an annual budget of $227.8 million, 18,719 students, 2,655 employees, and 33 campuses and facilities.

Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the importance of school boards in shaping the future, stating, β€œSchool board members play an integral role in promoting a lifelong love of learning in the next generation by collaborating with teachers, parents, and community members. They will continue to play a key role as we strive for educational excellence in the Lone Star State.”

Tyler ISD takes pride in providing innovative educational opportunities. Career & Technical Education students, for instance, earned nearly 1,800 industry-based certifications and over 9,600 college credit hours last yearβ€”equipping graduates with workforce-ready skills highly valued by local employers.

One of the board’s standout achievements is the successful passage of Bond 2022, which led to the construction and opening of the new Hubbard Middle School and Early College High School campusesβ€”state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance student learning and success.

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees comprises dedicated community leaders: R. Wade Washmon, President – District 1; Yvonne Atkins, Vice President – District 3; Artis Newsom – District 2; Cody Levrets – District 4; Aaron D.
