Today, Dixie Elementary School students and staff gathered to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the campus on the 100th Day of the school year. The event featured former students as special guests to share memories about their time at Dixie, the choir performed, and a time capsule was buried to commemorate this historic occasion.
Tyler High School seniors Mia Mendoza and Yolanda Gomez, who are both Brigadettes, shared memories of their years at Dixie and thanked their teachers. βSome of the best years of my life have been from this school, and I had so many great teachers,β said Yolanda. βI am in the top 10% of my grade with a GPA of 3.7, and I want to thank the school and all my teachers who helped make me who I am today.β
βToday is not just a celebration of our schoolβs history but a reflection of the students, families, and educators who have shaped our school community,β Principal Kimberly Simmons said. βWeβre thrilled to share this day with those who have been part of Dixieβs legacy.β
The time capsule, filled with contributions from each grade level, was buried at the front of the campus and marked with a permanent plaque to serve as a legacy for future generations. The time capsule was designed and constructed by students at the Career and Technology Center.
As part of the celebration, students got to see the types of items that were popular in 1924 when the campus was established. Each grade level contributed similar items to the time capsule popular for 2024, such as toys, snacks, fashion, technology, music, and a photograph of the graduating class of 2024.
