Today, students at Moore Middle School enjoyed a fun and educational lunchtime experience during the Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action, where they learned about the dangers of tobacco use and celebrated the school’s recent grant award.

Moore was awarded the Healthy Bodies Tobacco Prevention Grant from the National PTA, receiving $1,500 that will be used to enhance the school’s outdoor courtyard space. The funds will go toward creating a makerspace, pickleball area, basketball goal, storage space, and fabrication tools, providing students with engaging and healthy recreational opportunities.

During lunch, students heard from Principal Aubrey Ballard, who emphasized the importance of making smart, healthy choices. β€œWe want our students to understand the risks of tobacco use and empower them to make decisions that support their well-being,” Ballard said. β€œThis grant allows us to provide positive, enriching activities that keep our students engaged and active.”

To mark the occasion, Andy’s Frozen Custard generously provided 1,500 sweet treats for students and staff, making the event both informative and enjoyable.
