More than 2,000 Tyler ISD juniors and seniors filled the Career & Technology Center (CTC) for the districtβs annual Opportunity Fair. The event welcomed more than 100 new and returning local businesses eager to meet students looking for internships, apprenticeships, volunteer roles, and part-time or full-time employment.
Students came prepared with updated resumes highlighting their Career & Technical Education (CTE) hours and certifications earned throughout their time in Tyler ISD programs. With 25 areas of study represented, employers connected with students trained in industry-specific skills ranging from health science and business marketing to construction, culinary arts, and automotive technology.
βThe CTE Opportunity Fair helps our students find opportunities that are related to their CTE program of study,β CTE Work-Based Learning Coordinator Jessica Brown said. βStudents come dressed for success, with their resumes in hand and get to visit with area businesses that are here to help them with that next step toward their future goals. βThis event continues to grow each year.β
Among the businesses in attendance were CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances, Delek, Southside Bank, Trane Technologies, Tyler Police Department, Tyler Fire Department, and Texas Parks & Wildlife, just to name a few.
The Opportunity Fair not only supports students in taking their next step toward a successful future but also benefits local businesses by introducing them to a highly motivated and skilled talent pool.
βI am really thrilled to have had this opportunity to attend, βRebecca Hobbs from Lonestar Physical Therapy and Sports Performance said. βWhat a great job Tyler ISD has done in giving these students the opportunity to see different businesses and what they can offer the students in terms of career choices.β
The Career & Technology Center continues to play a key role in preparing students for life after graduation, providing real-world experience and hands-on learning that set Tyler ISD students apart.
