Tyler ISD’s Bilingual Department recently hosted a free Nuestro Exito/Our Success Community Fair at Tyler High School. Families of English Language Learners enjoyed visiting different community organization booths, learning about Tyler ISD Choice Schools, getting their faces painted, playing with Legos, getting a balloon animal, and even petting and holding real exotic animals with the Creature Teacher.

“The purpose of this event was to provide community resources for our families as well as to have different activities for our students to enjoy,” said Bilingual/ESL Director Ana Segulin. “We wanted our families to know that Tyler ISD offers options and resources for all students to have successful outcomes no matter what their native language is.”

Representatives from the following organizations participated: the Literacy Council, Children’s Defense Fund, Mosaic Counseling Center, St. Paul Children’s Foundation, Goodwill Industries of East Texas, East Texas Crisis Center, East Texas Food Bank, and Tyler Junior College. Breakfast and hot beverages provided families some warmth and relaxation, and students even got to take home their very own Lego figure from The Brick Truck.

“We were really pleased with the turnout and plan to host this event annually,” Ms. Segulin added.
