dreamcatchers created by students hang in the entryway at Jack Elementary School

Students throughout the district put their art skills to the test as they created varying masterpieces for BIG Art Day.

At Tyler Legacy, art teacher Ms. Melinda Tefteller, gave her classes a BIG design challenge for BIG Art Day!

Students received unconventional and limited materials then had a chance to collaborate on ideas and create a piece of art.

She says, "It's fun because students can work with friends. The challenge gets them to think about how they can make art out of anything."

Her colleague Mr. Mark Anderson came up with the Styrofoam cup idea. Each student received two cups, a utility knife (and white glue if needed), and had to create a freestanding sculpture.  Check out their unique creations.

Jack Elementary School students created Dream Catchers, which were on display in the front of the school for all families to enjoy.

At Three Lakes Middle School, over 100 8th grade students from Mr. Kisamore's class participated in Big Art Day. Students worked all day to create a geometric design similar to a mandala. Students used sidewalk chalk and their understanding of geometry and color theory to create the design.

Tyler High Visual Art Teacher Ms. Norma McClung took her students to the Tyler Museum of Art in celebration of Big Art Day. She also invited Calvin Toler as a visiting artist to her classes to demonstrate how he creates beautiful sculptures out of Styrofoam and Paper Mache.
