Thanks to a donation from Brad Cooper of Herff Jones, two Tyler ISD high school students who participated in Special Olympics this school year received letter jackets. Robert Fancher, 10th grade, and Marcus Newman, 11th grade, were awarded their jackets by Executive Director of Student Support Jeannia Dykman and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marty Crawford during the 11th grade awards assembly at Tyler Legacy High School.
Robert (aka βRobbieβ) Fancher (pictured below) participated in the Basketball Trials at SFA and in the track event in Longview. He was awarded various medals from all of his events. He will also compete on the first ever Tyler ISD Special Olympics Swim Team in July.
Marcus Newman (pictured below) is a veteran Special Olympian. He participated in the past and this year he competed during the Basketball Trials at SFA. He brought home gold medals in ball passing and dribbling.
Robbie and Marcus embody the characteristics of a warrior with their tenacity and commitment to do their best within each of their events as they represent Tyler ISDβs team, the Rose City Warriors.
