Valedictorians
Steven Guevara - Early College High School Valedictorian
Steven, son of Saira and Marcos Guevara, plans to attend The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) to major in biology. In addition to his high school diploma, Steven will earn an associate degree in general studies from Tyler Junior College, where he is on the Presidentβs List. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, and provides tutoring. His goal is to graduate from UT Tyler with a bachelor's degree in biology and proceed to medical school to become a neurologist. Congratulations, Steven!
Kyla Alyse Daye β Tyler High School Valedictorian
Kyla, daughter of Tamika and Carroll Daye Jr, plans to attend Tyler Junior College to major in computer science. Kyla is part of Senior Leadership, National Honor Society, Social Officer, Rookie of the Year, Director's Choice with the Brigadettes, and Emerging Leaders (photographer). She has also won the Tyler Rotary Young Citizen Award and Tyler ISD Student of the Month in 2019. Her goal is to transfer to a university and obtain a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering. Congratulations, Kyla!
Kawsar Yasin - Tyler Legacy High School Valedictorian
Kawsar, daughter of Yasin Ahat and Kalbinur Kurban, plans to attend Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to major in history of science (pre-med) with a minor in ethnicity, migration, & rights. Kawsar is the Debate Team Captain, President for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), President of the Student Council, and Key Club Division 34 Lieutenant Governor. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Hispanic Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Zonta Club, and has competed in UIL Academics. Her awards include National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Speech and Debate Tournament International Extemporaneous Speaking Octofinalist, PTA Reflections Visual Arts Contest State Honorable Mention, and UIL Congressional Debate State Finalist. She also holds the coveted National Speech and Debate Association Academic All American Award: awarded to fewer than 2% of debaters. Kawsar volunteers with the Literacy Council of Tyler, Tyler Public Library, Goodman-Legrand Museum, and CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Hospital. Her goal is to attend medical school and work with the World Health Organization and/or Doctors Without Borders. Congratulations, Kawsar!
Salutatorians
Tallon Clemmer - Early College High School Salutatorian
Tallon, daughter of Jennifer and Clay Clemmer, plans to attend The University of Texas at Tyler to major in biology. Along with her high school diploma, Tallon will earn an associate degree from Tyler Junior College in general studies. She is a member of the National Honor Society, math, social studies, and science honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa, UIL Academics, and student government. Her goal is to get her medical degree. Emma Yareli Arteaga β Tyler High School Salutatorian
Emma, daughter of Dulce and Luis Arteaga, plans to attend The University of Texas at Austin to double major in business management and environmental science. Emma's extracurricular activities include club travel soccer team, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), high school varsity soccer, cross country and track teams, Future Farmers of America, Keep Tyler Beautiful Youth Committee, Tyler Library Volunteer Youth Committee, Announcing Team, and Lion Guard. Her goal is to start an environmental consultant company. Congratulations, Emma!
Zoe Strain β Tyler Legacy High School Salutatorian
Zoe, daughter of Derek and Laura Strain, plans to attend The University of Texas at Dallas to double major in data science and neuroscience. Zoe is Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society Vice-President, Science National Honor Society Treasurer, Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership State Ambassador, Academic Challenge Quiz Team Captain, and 2nd place regional team. She is a member of the Southern Belle Drill Team, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, and Zonta Club. Zoe holds the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, and National Merit Commended Scholar. She is the Letters for Rose Chapter Co-Founder and the Local Outreach Coordinator. Her goal for the future is to obtain her MD-PhD and be a physician-scientist. Congratulations, Zoe!
