By now, you've probably received your appraisal notice, but did you know that Texas public schools donβt benefit from rising property values? When you pay more, the state pays less. Tyler ISDβs per-student funding is the same this year as it was in 2019-20, even though homeownersβ tax bills are up more than 9%.
The last time the state of Texas increased per-student funding for public schools was in 2019. Since then, the Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation, has risen 17%. Just like households and businesses, schools have experienced a drastic increase in fixed costs since 2019. In Tyler ISD, health insurance is up 9.5%, fuel is up 36%, and general insurance policies are up 2.4%.
As the legislature considers the state budget for the next biennium, Tyler ISD is calling on lawmakers to #FundTexasSchools because funding that doesnβt keep up with inflation means fewer opportunities for students.
