In honor of World Bee Day on Monday, May 20, the Bonner Bees, led by Principal Elizabeth Gomez, partnered with the Boshears Bees for a day of community service at the Boshears campus. This collaborative event brought together students from both schools for a day of learning, helping, and building community.
Students from 3rd to 5th grade at Bonner Elementary visited the Boshears Center, breaking into groups to support Boshears students in music and physical education (PE) classes, and assisting teachers in preparing classroom materials. This interaction provided a valuable experience for the Bonner students, who gained insights into the specialized educational programs at Boshears.
During their visit, the Bonner Bees learned about various specialized classrooms, such as Home Skills and the Busy Bee Mart. They were introduced to special equipment like the turtle, switches, and voice output devices, and enjoyed hands-on experiences with these tools. The students also participated in Boshears' unique music and PE programs, enhancing their understanding of inclusive education.
The presence of all 20 Bonner Bees at Boshears was a delightful experience for everyone involved. The Bonner students expressed their enjoyment and interest in the activities, while also learning about Boshears' summer volunteer program. This program, available for students 12 years and older after completing 6th grade, offers an excellent opportunity for continued community engagement.
The day was a beautiful display of collaboration and learning, with the Bonner and Boshears Bees thriving together. This partnership not only celebrated World Bee Day but also fostered a spirit of unity and mutual support between students from both schools.
