5th grade students throwing water balloons at their teachers

This week our 5th grade students celebrated reaching academic growth goals in iReady, a program we use for students to improve their skills in Reading and Math. The more growth students made the more water balloons they earned. Students then had the opportunity to throw the water balloons at their teachers! However, if the teachers caught the water balloons then they could bust them on the students!

Celebrating students' academic growth is essential as it acknowledges their hard work, perseverance, and progress, fostering a positive learning environment. Recognizing growth, rather than just achievement, emphasizes the value of effort and improvement, encouraging a growth mindset where students understand that abilities can develop with dedication and practice.

Celebrations boost students' self-esteem and motivation, reinforcing their confidence in tackling new challenges. Additionally, by highlighting academic growth, educators can create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes continuous learning and resilience. Ultimately, celebrating academic growth helps to instill a love for learning, inspiring students to persist in their educational journeys and strive for their personal best.
