welding

Tyler ISD Career & Technology Center teachers Ms. Hoover, Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Dean studiously worked in the CTC Welding lab today teaching students the tricks of the trade! Students are given industry-based tasks such as building fire-pits, smokers, even guitars, and then have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge into hands-on projects.

Along with a NCCER Core, Welding Level 1 and AWS D1 Certified Welder certifications, Tyler ISD and the Career & Technology Center provide a long list of opportunities to our future welders such as:

Welding Techniques: Students will learn various welding methods, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and Stick welding, each of which is applicable in different scenarios.

Metal Fabrication: Skills in cutting, shaping, and assembling metal parts to create structures and components will be developed.

Safety Practices: Emphasis on safety protocols and practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding of hazards related to welding.

Welding Equipment Operation: Training on how to operate and maintain welding equipment, including machines for cutting and joining metals.

Quality Control: Learning to assess the quality of welds and materials, ensuring that they meet industry standards and specifications.

Soldering and Brazing: Techniques for joining metals using soldering and brazing methods, which are important for specific applications.

Heat Treatment: Understanding the principles of heat treatment processes that affect the properties of metals, including hardening and tempering.

Problem-Solving Skills: Developing critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to address challenges that arise during welding projects.

Team Collaboration: Working in teams to complete projects, fostering collaboration and communication skills that are vital in the workplace.

Inspection Techniques: Learning how to conduct visual inspections and utilize tools like calipers and gauges to measure weld integrity.

Project Management: Skills in planning, organizing, and managing welding projects from inception to completion, including time management and resource allocation.
