Tyler ISD's, Tyler High and Career and Technology's Practicum of Health Science, Kinesiology I, and Health Science Theory/ A&P teacher, Mrs. Allen-Johnson instructed her students through a hands-on activity of studying the various layers of muscle tissue. Students were able to identify each muscle group under microscopes, compare and contrast, discuss the details and formulate identification notes. Mrs. Allen-Johnson began by explaining the three main types of muscle tissue: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Students explored the striations of the skeletal muscle fibers, the intricate network of the cardiac muscle cells, and the smooth, uniform appearance of the smooth muscle. As they observed each type, Mrs. Allen-Johnson encouraged them to discuss the unique characteristics, functions, and locations of these muscle tissues. The students then drew connections to their real-world applications in the human body. This hands-on exploration not only solidified their understanding of the muscle tissues but also ignited their curiosity, setting the stage for further discoveries in the field of health science.
