Future educators in Tyler ISD’s Career & Technology Center (CTC) Practicum in Education and Training program recently took on a unique and creative project that challenged them to step into the shoes of authors and illustrators. With guidance from their instructor and inspiration from local author Stephanie Seaton, students were tasked with creating original storybooks that promote moral development, personal growth, or educational lessons tailored for specific grade levels.

The project required students to work individually, creating a full storybook complete with a front and back cover, a title and credit page, colorful illustrations, and a compelling narrative. Each story was written with a young audience in mind and focused on a positive character trait or teachable moment. Whether hand-drawn or digitally illustrated, the books reflected the students’ creativity, understanding of developmental appropriateness, and growing skill as future teachers.

Stephanie Seaton, known for her inspiring children’s books, met with the students to offer feedback, encouragement, and insights into the writing process. Her presence motivated the students to take pride in their work and consider the real-world impact their stories could have on young readers.

As part of the Practicum in Education and Training, these students gain hands-on experience working alongside certified educators in classrooms across all grade levels. This project not only sharpened their instructional and planning skills but also showcased their potential as compassionate and thoughtful future educators.

Upon completion of the program, students will graduate with their Teacher’s Aide Certification, ready to begin their careers in education. These young authors are well on their way to becoming the next generation of inspiring teachers and coaches.
