Early College High School (ECHS) is proud to announce its recent ranking as one of the best high schools in the nation and #1 in East Texas, according to U.S. News & World Report. The school has secured a prominent position on the 2024 Best High Schools list, showcasing its commitment to academic excellence and student success. ECHS scored 96.6 out of 100, ranking 600 out of 17,655 in the nation and 84 out of 2,021 in the state.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate public high schools nationwide based on various factors, including college readiness, graduation rates, and proficiency in math and reading assessments. Early College High Schoolβs outstanding performance in these areas has earned it a notable spot in Texasβ educational landscape.

It also highlights the effectiveness of our Early College program in preparing students for higher education and future careers.β
Early College High School offers students a unique opportunity to earn a free associate degree from Tyler Junior College (TJC) while completing their high school education. This degree is valued at more than $30,000, and students can choose from more than 40 Dual Credit Courses and 13 degree plans.
βPeople ask me what the secret to our success is, and it is truly no secret,β added Mrs. Hortman. βWe all know and agree that we will do whatever is necessary to help each student reach the finish line, no matter their circumstances.β
The schoolβs rigorous curriculum, supportive learning environment, and focus on personalized education have contributed to its rising reputation in the educational community. As a result, ECHS continues to attract motivated and ambitious students eager to challenge themselves academically.
