On February 9th, the talented middle school students of Ms. Hawkins's theatre class showcased their dramatic prowess at the UIL One Act Play competition. For those unfamiliar, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) One Act Play is a prestigious theatrical competition in Texas where schools perform condensed plays within a strict time limit.
This year, Hubbard Theatre students captivated audiences with their performance of "The Women of Lockerbie," a poignant play centered around the aftermath of the tragic 1988 plane crash in Lockerbie, Scotland. Their portrayal was nothing short of exceptional, earning them First Place for the first time in Hubbard History.
Individual achievements highlighted the students' remarkable talent and dedication. Lily Crum's outstanding performance earned her the coveted title of Best Performer in the district, while Cohen Canal and Charlotte Shanhouse received well-deserved recognition with All Star Cast awards. Additionally, Cheyenne Cooney's exceptional contribution was acknowledged with an Honorable Mention medal, and Abigail Barnes's invaluable role in the production was honored with a medal for being on the Honor Crew.
The success of Hubbard Middle School's theatre students at the UIL One Act Play competition is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for the performing arts. Congratulations to Ms. Hawkins and all the students involved for their outstanding achievement and for bringing the magic of theatre to life on stage!
