Jones' own Meshayla Kemp, 4th grade RLA teacher, was a 2020-2021 grant award recipient from the Tyler ISD Foundation.
The whole campus was surprised when the prize patrol arrived with band and cheerleaders in tow. As they paraded through the hall, classroom doors were opened and excited faces peered out to see who was being celebrated. As they arrived at Mrs. Kemp's door, her students were jumping up and down and cheering with joy for their teacher.
Her grant, "CROSS TOWN CONNECTIONS" - $2,500.00, will engage 4th grade students from Jones and Rice elementary schools by connecting students as pen pals. Students will read the same novel allowing them to dive into discussions, collaborative projects, and application of academic TEKS with their pen pal.
