Jones 2nd Grade Market Day!

Jones 2nd graders recently participated in an experience they will not soon forget.  Students learned all about what it takes to run a business and be financially responsible through very hands on Market Day.

Teachers created Market Day as part of the Economic Unit in their social Social Studies curriculum.

For the past few weeks students focused in on learning all about supply and demand, producers and consumers, and what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

The students found business partners, started a company, and created products to sell based off the interest of their peers.

On Market Day, each business set up shop in the cafe to promote and sell their products to other students.

Each students was also given a budget and some "money" to spend on products they wanted to buy from the other vendors.  All the students earned their Market Day spending money by positive choices such as arriving to school on time and doing their classroom community job. To make it more real to like, they had to pay taxes for their paycheck and fines for classroom infractions.

Jones 2nd Grade teacher, Miss Jade Perry observed that students had "so much fun get[ting] into character and learn[ing] skills that will be beneficial in real-life scenarios."

Students not only had a memorable experience having fun with their learning, but they got some valuable lessons that the can apply in the future:

"Making our logo was the hardest part because we wanted to be different than other bakery's." - Jemarian Cork

"Shopping on the last day was fun for me because I got a chance to see what everyone created."  - Channing Erskine

"I learned that if you create products people like they will buy them."  - JeHavean Dorsey

"I learned that if you want a good business you have to invest in it."  - Avery Sarmiento
