Tyler Legacy High School Students Teach Junior Achievement to Owens Elementary

Tyler Legacy High School students are making a positive impact at Owens Elementary School through the Junior Achievement (JA) High School Heroes program.  Before the Thanksgiving break, Tyler Legacy students spent a day at Owens Elementary teaching Junior Achievement lessons to each grade. This initiative not only provides leadership development opportunities for high schoolers but also creates a unique bond within the community.

The program equips high school students (Grades 9-12) with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom. From identifying leadership qualities to mastering effective presentation skills, these mentors play a crucial role in enhancing the educational journey of Owens Elementary students. The experience becomes even more special as some younger students find inspiration in their older siblings who are actively involved in teaching JA lessons.

Participating in JA High School Heroes empowers students to navigate personal and professional challenges using problem-solving techniques and critical thinking. The program emphasizes the consequences of decisions, the value of constructive feedback, and the importance of a growth mindset. As part of the JA Work and Career Readiness Pathway, the program aligns with national and state standards, covering areas such as reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness.

This collaborative effort not only fosters educational growth but also exemplifies the spirit of community unity. As Tyler Legacy students contribute their knowledge and skills to Owens Elementary, they are building bridges that strengthen the fabric of the community, creating lasting connections that go beyond the boundaries of age and academic levels.
