Tyler Legacy High School's juniors and seniors celebrated a significant academic achievement as they were awarded their AP Capstone stoles for completing the rigorous AP Capstone program under the guidance of Tyler Legacy teacher, Mr. Hancock. This course has grown from just a small group of students the first year to now a full class-worth of students eager to hone their research skills through Mr. Hancock's tutelage.
The AP Capstone program, developed by the College Board, is a two-year diploma program that consists of two yearlong courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Unlike traditional AP courses, AP Capstone focuses on developing studentsβ critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills rather than subject-specific content.
Through AP Seminar and AP Research, students delve into interdisciplinary topics, conduct research, write academic papers, and make presentations. These courses prepare students for college-level work by encouraging them to analyze issues from multiple perspectives, propose solutions to real-world problems, and integrate knowledge across various subjects.
Tyler Legacy students who complete the two-year program have the opportunity to earn one of two prestigious awards: the AP Capstone Diploma or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. These awards are highly regarded by colleges and universities worldwide, recognizing students' dedication to academic excellence and mastery of essential skills for higher education and beyond.
The AP Capstone program not only equips students with the skills necessary for success in college but also fosters a love for learning and exploration across disciplines, enriching their educational experience and preparing them for future endeavors.
