As graduation draws near, Tyler ISD seniors came together to celebrate their commitment to pursuing higher education, certification programs, trade schools, or military service. The day buzzed with excitement as students, parents, and staff cheered on the seniors, recognizing the significance of their decisions. Colorful displays of college gear, energetic cheers, and campus-wide signage adorned the walls, creating an atmosphere of celebration.
βDecision Day isnβt solely about selecting a college,β Tyler ISD AVID Coordinator Lillian Brooks said. βItβs truly a celebration of the diverse pathways our students are embarking on. Whether theyβre pursuing higher education, trade schools, or military, every seniorβs chosen path deserves recognition.β
Students signed informal letters of intent for their chosen path. The signings and celebrations occurred at all four Tyler ISD high schools -
Tyler High, Tyler Legacy, Early College High School, and Rise Academy. While each school had its unique setup and approach for the event, they shared the common goal of creating an atmosphere to highlight each studentβs journey beyond graduation.
Adding to the excitement, each student had the opportunity to create a personalized slide showcasing their senior photos alongside the logo of their chosen post-secondary institution, further highlighting their individual paths.
AVID Decision Day is part of a national initiative aligned with National College Decision Day, a set day that students must inform colleges of their enrollment plans.
Decision Day is sponsored annually by the Tyler ISD AVID College and Career Department and in collaboration with the Tyler Area Business Education Council.
βWe firmly believe that every student deserves the chance to pursue education beyond high school, whether through traditional academic routes, technical certifications, or serving our country,β stated LaToya Young, Executive Director of the Tyler Area Business Education Council. βThrough celebrating Decision Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting each studentβs post-graduation journey.β
Seniors who participated in Decision Day festivities could win prizes and gift cards generously provided by sponsors.
