Tyler ISD is proud to announce that 15 seniors in the Rise Up program were surprised with the inaugural June S. Flock Healthcare Scholarship presented by Tyler Junior College (TJC) and CHRISTUS Health today at the Career & Technology Center (CTC).
These scholarships are part of the June S. Flock Scholarship Endowment established last year with a generous $1 million gift from the Flock family. Its purpose is to empower and encourage students interested in healthcare careers to achieve their academic goals.
"We are thrilled to partner with Tyler Junior College in awarding the June S. Flock Healthcare Scholarships to these deserving students," CHRISTUS Health mission integration program director Siretha Toston said. "These scholarships represent our commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals and supporting their educational journey."
The Rise Up program was developed as a partnership between CHRISTUS and TJC to educate high school students on different pathways in health care. Under the program, students attend the opportunity fair hosted by CHRISTUS at the CTC, which introduces them to other healthcare tracks. Students then visit the CHRISTUS campus, where they are introduced to their culture and interact with associates.
From there, they can sign up for a shadowing program, where they shadow medical professionals throughout the semester. The goal is that the experience will provide them with insight into health care and encourage them to pursue a career in health care.
Each student received $1,200 to use toward furthering their education at TJC. The scholarships are renewable if students remain in good standing with the college.
The following students received the scholarship:
Tyler High School - MaHaliah Billington, Amy Espinoza, Emily Hernandez, Rosa Lamas, Ahnesty Shurme, Emily Solis, and Allison Williams
Tyler Legacy High School - Karen Delgadillo, Jossimar Garcia, Rozlyn Hamm, Shavonna Holmes, Sarah Johnson, Mallory Kniffen, Odalys Rangel, and Cameron Sanchez
