In the spring, Broadway Dallas announced their nominations for the 2024 High School Musical Theatre Awards. After spending several months traveling the state and judging high school (both public and private) musical performances, Broadway Dallas recognized Tyler Legacy Theater with six nominations. Outstanding Musical to Max Payne, Outstanding Musical Direction to Jabryn Carston, and four Outstanding Lead Performer nominations (more than any other school) to Max Payne, Fabiola Quijada Caraballo, Jerard Mosley and Zach Combs.
The four lead performer nominees began rehearsals with Broadway Dallas in late April, preparing for medley performances and full-cast performances to be highlighted at the annual High School Musical Theater Awards Show that was held on May 24 at Fair Park Music Hall.
Tyler Legacy Theatre was selected to perform a number from their fall musical “Something Rotten.” All 36 members of the Something Rotten cast went to show-off their talents in Dallas. After weeks of rehearsals and additional judging of the four Lead Performers, the awards were handed out.
While Legacy didn’t end up winning Outstanding Musical or Outstanding Musical Direction, they did win big in the Outstanding Lead Performer category. Senior, Jerard Mosley, was selected as the Runner-Up in the Male Lead category and Fabiola Quijada Caraballo won Outstanding Female Lead for the second year in a row! She qualified to advance to compete on a national level in New York City in June for the coveted Jimmy Award.
Hosted by Josh Groban, the 15th annual Jimmy Awards® took place on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre. The event showcased the finest high school musical theatre talent nationwide, featuring nominees from over 50 regions across the U.S. Over 900 nominees have participated in the program to date.
Fabiola made it into the top eight finalists, which included four females and four males, in the New York City competition. As a finalist, she received a $5,000 scholarship and the SCAD Achievement Scholarship, a $10,000 annual scholarship to Savannah College of Art & Design, contingent upon acceptance and enrollment.
Congratulations to each of these students!
