Tyler Legacy High School freshman Madalyn Petty made waves at the UIL 6A Swimming and Diving State Meet in Austin, capturing the gold medal in the 500-yard freestyle. Petty delivered a remarkable performance, finishing with a time of 4:45.05 - an improvement from her preliminary time of 4:49.17 - and coming just shy of the 6A state record of 4:40.66 set in 2022.
Petty also impressed in the 200-yard freestyle, securing first place in the consolation final with a time of 1:50.69, an improvement from her prelim time of 1:51.03. Her outstanding achievement in the 500 freestyle qualifies her as a NISCA Automatic All-American.
Her success at the state meet is the latest in a string of impressive accomplishments this season, including:
USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals: 3rd place in the 1650 freestyle at the National Championship for 18 & Under swimmers.
District 10-6A Champion: 1st place in the 200 and 500 freestyle, earning the Swimmer of the Meet award.
Regional 3-6A Champion: 1st place in the 200 and 500 freestyle, setting a new team record in the 500 freestyle.
With such an incredible start to her high school career, Petty has firmly established herself as one of the top young swimmers in Texas.
