Tyler ISD announces that longtime Athletic Director Greg Priest has been named the new Executive Athletic Director at Rockwall ISD. Priest, who has led Tyler ISD Athletics for over a decade, will transition to his new role at Rockwall ISD later this spring.

β€œIt has been an incredible honor to serve as the Athletic Director at Tyler ISD,” Priest said. β€œThe past decade has been filled with unforgettable moments, talented student-athletes, dedicated coaches, and a supportive community that has made a lasting impact on me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this journey, and while I look forward to this next chapter at Rockwall ISD, I will always cherish my time in Tyler.”

During his tenure, Priest helped elevate Tyler ISD Athletics to new heights, with student-athletes achieving success at the district, regional, and state levels. His leadership fostered a culture of excellence, ensuring student-athletes had the resources and guidance necessary to succeed both on and off the field.

Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford praised Priest’s impact on the district, stating, β€œIt says a lot that Rockwall ISD pursued Coach Priest, not just because of his abilities and intangibles, but what Tyler ISD has been able to accomplish over the last decade-plus. Coach Priest has led a department that has accomplished competitive outcomes but, most importantly, improved the quality of the student-athlete’s experience.”

Dr. Crawford also highlighted the significance of Priest’s leadership and its influence across Texas. β€œHe, his team, and our coaches have created a Front Porch Culture that is being noticed across Texas. From our Tyler ISD youth leagues to competitive team sports and individual athletes making playoff appearances annually, the last decade has seen our 6-12 athletic experience improve. His helmsmanship undoubtedly proved immense in those improvements reputationally.”

Reflecting on their time working together, Dr. Crawford added, β€œIt has been a pleasure to work with Greg over the last decade, and I admire his athletic administrative acumen. Rockwall is getting a solid administrator, and as always, Tyler ISD looks forward to competing with our friendly rivals on the lake in the metroplexβ€”just now with one of our own leading their teams.”

Priest leaves behind a legacy of excellence at Tyler ISD, and while his departure marks the end of an era, the district remains committed to building on the foundation he helped establish.
