The Tyler ISDβ―Board of Trusteesβ―approved Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawfordβs recommendation of Beau Trahan as the new head football coach for Tyler Legacy High School at Thursdayβs special board meeting.
βWe went into this process to find a charismatic leader with a track record of innovative and successful coaching experiences that evolved into winning programs that werenβt ready-baked when he arrived,β Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. βWe are excited to bring a Texas high school football coaching legacy of Coach Trahanβs caliber, football acumen, and engaging personality to the Tyler ISD Board.β
Coach Trahan comes to Tyler ISD from The University of Tulsa, where he has served for the last seven years. He most recently was the Co-Passing Game Coordinator, a position he was promoted to in July 2021 while also coaching the Tulsa quarterbacks.
βI am excited to have Beau Trahan take over as the leader of the Tyler Legacy football program,β Athletic Director Greg Priest said. βHe has learned under and worked with some of the best minds in football. He is a football coachβs son and understands the expectations and commitment it takes to be successful. Beau will bring energy and an exciting brand of football to the program and be a great asset to Tyler Legacy and this community.β
βWhen speaking with members of the Tyler Legacy Football community, they are ready to embrace a coach that prioritizes high-value experiences for every student-athlete in the program,β Crawford said. βAnd a person who is also committed to the work it takes for winning outcomes not only on Friday nights but when any Red Raider (or Husky Raider or Gator Raider) team lines up on the field any day of the week. Weβre excited to partner with Coach Beau to make that happen. He is excited about the resources and assets we employ to execute his 6-12 transformational football plan with positivity and trustworthy steadiness.β
Before arriving in Tulsa, Trahan spent eight years at Baylor University. He spent his final two seasons as the Bearsβ assistant athletic director in charge of high school relations and coordinator of recruiting for football. Before that, Trahan served as Baylorβs director of football operations for three seasons and previously was the director of high school relations for three years.
A four-year letterman at The University of Texas (UT), Trahan began his collegiate playing career as a quarterback and then moved to safety. He returned to the quarterback position in 2001 and 2002. Trahan served as a team captain during his senior season in 2002. Following his playing career, Trahan launched his collegiate coaching career in 2003 as a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball at Texas. He assisted with coaching the defensive backs and special teams. From UT, Trahan joined the coaching staff at the University of Houston in 2004 as an offensive graduate assistant coach, coaching under Philip Montgomery. He coached tight ends for the Cougars and assisted with coaching the special teams. From 2005-08, Trahan was an assistant coach at Dickinson High School, where he coached the quarterbacks and served as co-offensive coordinator under his father, legendary Warren βBullβ Trahan.
βI am so excited to become the next Head Football Coach at Tyler Legacy High School,β Coach Trahan said. βI want to thank the administration, Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford, Athletic Director Greg Priest, Principal Geoff Sherman, and their staff for this incredible opportunity. Their vision for academics and athletics is very much in line with what I believe. This vision, along with an incredibly supportive community with great tradition and their love for Tyler ISD athletics, is what ultimately drew me to this job. I cannot wait to get to work with our student-athletes. We look forward to building an extremely competitive football team and continuing the winning tradition that makes this community proud. My family and I are honored and extremely excited to join this great Tyler community. LETβS GO WIN!β
Coach Trahan comes to Tyler with his wife, Lauren, and two daughters, Abigail and Anne.
Coach Trahanβs official start date with the district will be Monday, January 30. Media interviews can be arranged with Coach Trahan through the Communications Department after his start date.
