The Moore Middle School Library recently hosted its Annual Bookmark Competition, encouraging students to unleash their artistic talents while aligning their designs with the school’s 2024 theme: β€œBuilt for the Battle.” This year’s entries were imaginative, bold, and full of personality, with students drawing inspiration from historical themes, academic life, and popular culture.

After careful consideration and a vote by staff and faculty, three outstanding students were selected as the top finalists: 7th-grader Kelcey Wallace, 8th-grader Madison Muse, and 7th-grader Gerrit Allen. All three winning bookmarks displayed a medieval tone that creatively reflected the theme, each in a distinct and meaningful way.

Wallace’s bookmark stood out with a Star Wars-inspired battle scene, using a monochrome gray and black palette. The title, β€œBuilt for the Battle,” appeared in soft pastel colors, offering a delicate contrast to the intense imagery. Muse’s bookmark took a whimsical approach, featuring knights fencing in a vibrant spring field. One knight lounges on a red plaid blanket β€” matching the bright plumes of the knights' helmets in Moore’s school colors β€” while reading a book under blue skies.

Allen’s intricate design was divided into three sections. The top section, filled with math symbols, nodded to Moore’s focus on academic excellence. The centerpiece showcased the school’s Mustang mascot in shining blue and silver armor, standing beside a red-and-silver knight. The bottom section highlighted the school library with a detailed drawing of a book, honoring the joy of reading.
