Tyler ISD, in collaboration with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra (ETSO), hosted Carnegie Hall’s renowned Link Up program at the Tyler High School Dr. Martin L. Edwards, Jr. Theatre on February 4 and 5. This dynamic and interactive music education experience allowed every Tyler ISD fourth and fifth-grade student to engage with orchestral music firsthandβ€”culminating in an exciting performance alongside ETSO musicians.

Through Link Up, students not only experience a live symphony but also actively participate, playing along with the ETSO. The program provides instrumental and vocal curriculum to students across East Texas who might not otherwise have access to such opportunities.

β€œLink Up is such an incredible opportunity for our students to see and hear the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, many for the first time,” ETSO Executive Director Robin Hampton said. β€œThe music curriculum is from Carnegie Hall’s Link-Up program, immersing students in the amazing instrumental music experience.  We are honored to have Tyler ISD host the culminating concerts for nearly 4,000 East Texas students.”

The Tyler ISD Link Up District Choir and Recorder Choir, which is made up of auditioned students from every elementary school, added to the performances. Student actors from Caldwell Arts Academy and the Tyler High Drumline also took the stage alongside ETSO.

Tyler ISD Director of Visual and Performing Arts Luke Dean emphasized the program’s impact, noting that every 4th and 5th-grade student in the district participates in the curriculum throughout the fall before attending one of the four concerts.

β€œLink Up is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to perform with a professional symphony orchestra,” Dean said. β€œWatching them make music and create lasting memories is truly special.”

The Link Up concerts provide a magical and unforgettable experience for students, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Tyler ISD is grateful for its ongoing partnership with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Richard Lee, and the talented ETSO musicians who make this event possible.
