Students at Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School have been enjoying spooky stories and decorating pumpkins in the library this week. One of the students' favorite activities this week has been creating their own Creepy Carrot. "Creepy Carrots!" is a popular children's picture book written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Peter Brown. It was published in 2012. The story revolves around a rabbit named Jasper Rabbit and his fears of creepy, orange carrots. Peter Brown's illustrations are a significant part of what makes "Creepy Carrots!" so engaging. The carrots are portrayed in various eerie and humorous ways, often lurking in the shadows with creepy expressions. The illustrations help convey the story's humor and the contrast between Jasper's fears and the innocent reality of the carrots. The book's combination of a relatable childhood fear with humor and imaginative storytelling has made it a favorite among children and adults alike. It's a delightful and slightly spooky tale that provides a unique and entertaining perspective on common childhood fears.
Students are also competing in the Pumpkin Storybook Contest and there are about forty entries so far. From Captain Underpants to Pete the Cat, students and their families have enjoyed creating characters using pumpkins from some of their favorite books. Winners will be announced next week after Birdwell staff cast their votes.
