Diana Tenorio is a shining example of determination, resilience, and dedication to education. She attended Douglas Elementary School, Dogan Middle School, and the former John Tyler High School and has not only carved a path of success for herself but has also become an inspiration to many as the first bilingual Gifted and Talented (GT) teacher at Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School.
Diana's journey began with a dream and a full-ride scholarship—the Faulconer Scholarship—that she earned by graduating as a top 10% student from John Tyler High School. This scholarship not only paved the way for her higher education but also symbolized the potential she carried within.
"My mother always wanted me to be a teacher," Diana recalled. "I always laughed, but then with her enthusiasm and my 4th-grade teacher, Mr. Arriola, motivating me, inspiring me to be the best, and teaching others what I knew, just made me realize that teaching was my calling."
Venturing into the academic realm at The University of Texas at Tyler, Diana continued to excel. In 2019, she graduated Magna Cum Laude, leaving an indelible mark on her alma mater. However, her journey was not solely about personal accomplishments; it was about giving back to the community that had nurtured her growth.
"I was attracted to Tyler ISD because it's my hometown school district,โ Diana said. โI have gone to school in Tyler ISD since kindergarten. Tyler ISD has given me so many opportunities to grow. Tyler ISD is where I met my best friends and my significant other, and I live in the heart of all the elementary schools. It just made sense!"
The transition from student to teacher brought about a profound sense of accomplishment for Diana. From being an AVID student to becoming an AVID tutor at John Tyler High School and other middle schools, she achieved significant milestones. "I felt full of growth when I became a teacher,โ Diana said. โI wanted to be an example to other students and make all my Tyler ISD teachers proud. Now, it's a privilege to work alongside my past teachers."
Diana's pursuit of knowledge does not stop with her teaching role. Currently enrolled in graduate school, she is on track to receive a master's degree in reading, with plans to graduate in the spring of 2024. Her journey is a beacon of inspiration for those who aspire to make a difference in the field of education.
