Tyler ISD is excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership between the districtโ€™s Head Start and Pre-K departments with the Career & Technology Center (CTC) Education Program. This collaboration provides nine senior students enrolled in the CTCโ€™s Teaching and Training program with the opportunity to observe and engage with Pre-K and Head Start classrooms twice a month.

Executive Director of College and Career Dr. Kristen Walls expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership. โ€œThis is a unique opportunity for our practicum students to gain hands-on experience in early childhood education,โ€ she said. โ€œBy observing in Pre-K and Head Start classrooms, these seniors will not only develop a deeper understanding of teaching strategies but will also be well-prepared to enter the workforce as Certified Educational Aides. This partnership truly paves the way for their future success in the field of education.โ€

The observation cycle will run through April on select Wednesdays. During rotation one, Tyler Legacy and Tyler High students visited classrooms at Bell, Jones, and Rice elementary schools, as well as Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School. Rotation two will include Bell, Bonner, Orr, and Rice elementary schools.

โ€œHaving high school students interact with our Head Start classrooms is a wonderful way to bridge the gap between education levels,โ€ Director of Head Start Brandy Holland said. โ€œItโ€™s inspiring to see our youngest learners and future educators sharing the same space and learning from one another.โ€

Upon graduating in May, the seniors will be certified as Educational Aides, along with earning certifications in CPR and First Aid. With these qualifications, they will be eligible for immediate employment at any Tyler ISD campus.

โ€œThis partnership offers a unique, hands-on learning experience that enhances the educational journey of both our Pre-K students and the practicum seniors,โ€ Facilitator of Elementary Programs Raina Patton said. โ€œItโ€™s a win-win for everyone involved and supports the development of future teachers.โ€
