This yearโ€™s theme, "Leadership for Tomorrowโ€™s Texas," underscores the essential collaboration among school leaders, educators, and families to foster student success. โ€œThe Tyler ISD Board of Trustees is committed to effective governance that places students, teachers, parents, and staff at the forefront while ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources,โ€ said Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford.

As a link between the community and the classroom, a school board member's role is to establish policies that provide the framework for public schools. The Tyler ISD Board is responsible for an annual budget of $227.8 million, 18,719 students, 2,655 employees, and 33 campuses and facilities.

Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the importance of school boards in shaping the future, stating, โ€œSchool board members play an integral role in promoting a lifelong love of learning in the next generation by collaborating with teachers, parents, and community members. They will continue to play a key role as we strive for educational excellence in the Lone Star State.โ€

Tyler ISD takes pride in providing innovative educational opportunities. Career & Technical Education students, for instance, earned nearly 1,800 industry-based certifications and over 9,600 college credit hours last yearโ€”equipping graduates with workforce-ready skills highly valued by local employers.

One of the boardโ€™s standout achievements is the successful passage of Bond 2022, which led to the construction and opening of the new Hubbard Middle School and Early College High School campusesโ€”state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance student learning and success.

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees comprises dedicated community leaders: R. Wade Washmon, President โ€“ District 1; Yvonne Atkins, Vice President โ€“ District 3; Artis Newsom โ€“ District 2; Cody Levrets โ€“ District 4; Aaron D.
