Student Teacher Guidelines

Tyler ISD welcomes student teachers during the fall and spring semesters. Campus placements are determined by Tyler ISD central office staff. All placements are based on availability and spaces are limited. To request a placement for student teaching, please follow the guidelines listed below:

  • Student teacher candidates must be entering the final semester of the teacher preparation program; and, upon successful completion of student teaching and any other program requirements, be eligible for a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate; 

  • Tyler ISD does not place student teachers in paid internship assignments;

  • Tyler ISD does not provide or recommend program advisors or supervisors;

  • Only requests from colleges, universities and program coordinators will be accepted;

  • Students or representatives of the requesting program should not contact campus teachers or principals directly;

  • Student teachers are required to follow the Tyler ISD district dress code.

Placement Timelines

Fall Semester
Student teacher applications will be accepted March 1 through August 1.

Spring Semester
Student teacher applications will be accepted October 1 through December 1.

ID Badges

All student teachers are required to wear their University issued ID badge while on the assigned campus.
