Second grade Rice Rangers were voters today by taking part in the Great Cookie Election. Students campaigned for their candidate, took a trip to the voting booth to cast their vote, and graphed the results. It was a close race between Oreo and Chocolate Chip, but ultimately Oreo won the election!

Pre-K enjoyed learning about pumpkins! They performed a float or sink experiment, painted pumpkins, explored the parts of a pumpkin, and erupted a pumpkin!

Our youngest rangers learned about fall leaves changing colors. They went to the courtyard to explore and pick leaves. They learned about sorting leaves by color and by size. They also made playdough while learning the concept of less and more, measurement and numbers by filling the cup with ingredients.

Our Rangers really showed their creativity this week by capturing their favorite book characters in pumpkin form.

Pre-K had a SUPERπ¦ΈββοΈRock Your School Day at Rice! They started the morning with stations with measurement, counting, and more. And of course you arenβt a real superhero until youβve completed your superhero training course! The students had to go through an agility ladder, ring of fire, leap over tall buildings, smash through a wall, throw shields, and lift a HUGE boulder!

Second graders have been exploring different forms of energy. They went on a sound scavenger hunt to record sounds they heard around campus, made musical instruments in the STEM lab, and used their very own heat energy to melt Hershey's Kisses.

Our youngest rangers learned about the people who help in our community. They had a guest reader from the Tyler Police Department. They also visited Nurse Gomez to learn the tools she uses to keep the students healthy.Β

Whatβs more fun than drawing Jack-oβ-lantern faces? Our youngest rangers had fun practicing drawing shapes on pumpkins!

These Rangers in 2nd grade worked in teams to create fact family neighborhoods.

Prek has been learning about their community this week. They are learning the importance of knowing their addresses and phone numbers. They also had fun painting and making houses like the ones they see in their neighborhoods.

These 2nd graders are showcasing their writing about why school is important. The writing process is a crucial lesson to learn at this age. Great work Rangers!

Pre-K had an apple-solutely great week learning about apples! From reading narrative and informational texts, to apple art crafts, to apple STEM activities, and to tasting delicious apples!

Our 2nd grade Rangers are working together in teams to build a bridge. Will they be strong enough? They will test their bridge after the building process is complete!
